DESCRIPTION:Great opportunity for OATS volunteers to join Glenlivet Estate Rangers\, Mark & Rob\, and engage in various maintenance and conservation activities. These can range from fencing\, signage\, invasive species removal\, path maintenance and more.  \nLocation: Glenlivet Estate Office\, Tomintoul \nTime: 10 am – 3 pm \nFacilities: Glenlivet Estate Office or Tomintoul public toilets \nRequirements\nNo induction needed. Tools and work gloves will be provided (you can bring your own work gloves if you prefer). \nWhat to bring\nAll volunteers should bring appropriate footwear (waterproof boots with firm ankle support) and appropriate clothing (long sleeves and long trousers\, waterproofs\, cap / sun hat) to cover them for changing weather conditions. No shorts should be worn as ticks are present in the area. DESCRIPTION:Both routes open breathtaking views over Loch A’an (Loch Avon) surrounded by craggy amphitheater.\nPlease note that this path requires a long and strenuous walk in and out of the Coire. \nLocation: Cairngorm Mountain \nTime: 9 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: There are accessible toilets at the Cairngorm Mountain car park. \nOn the day\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - 2 Day Event at Loch Muick (Lochnagar)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for two days of path maintenance on Lochnagar footpaths in the stunning area of Glen Muick.\nPlease note this is an overnight trip\, accommodation and evening meal on Monday night will be provided. \nLocation: Spittal of Glen Muick car park and visitor centre\, Ballater \nAccommodation: Allt-Na-Giubhsaich Bothy on Monday night\, provided by the Balmoral Estate \nFacilities: Toilets are available at the bothy\, or at the visitor centre.\nThe bothy is heated by a wood burner\, there is kitchen with cooking facilities\, dining room and two bedrooms with 3 bunkbeds in each. \nOn each day of the trip\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. DESCRIPTION:Are you a hillwalker as well as mountain biker? If so\, and would like to help with maintenance of the Slugain path\, read through the details below. \nLocation: Keiloch car park\, Invercauld Estate\, AB35 5TW \nTime: 9 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: There are accessible toilets at the car park. \nRequirements\nVolunteers must have experience in off-road cycling and walking in the hills\, have a good physical fitness and be capable of using tools.\nNo experience of path work is required. Tools and work gloves will be provided. \nOn the day\nFirst\, we will cycle closer to the path (around 7 km)\, lock our bikes and then walk the rest of the distance. On the footpath\, we are going to clear drainage features\, help to repair erosion damage and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. \nWhat to bring\nMountain bike in working condition\, helmet\, appropriate footwear and clothing suitable for cycling and walking.\nBackpack with outside attachments/straps that will allow to carry small spade (can be also placed inside of the pack if suitable)\, and has space inside for  your spare layers\, waterproofs\, cap or hat\, insect repellent and sunscreen\, and plenty of water and food for the day.\nSpares specific to your own bike (e.g. inner tube or tubeless repair kit\, chain link).\nBike lock. \nPlease note\, that bikes\, helmets\, clothing and spares will be checked prior to the ride. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - 2 Day Event at Stac Pollaidh
DESCRIPTION:Join us for two days of path maintenance on the popular footpath up Stac Pollaidh mountain in the stunning area of Northwest Highlands.\nPlease note this is an overnight trip\, accommodation and evening meal on Monday night will be provided. \nLocation: Stac Pollaidh\, Northwest Highlands \nAccommodation: Ullapool Hostel (15 miles away from Stac Pollaidh)\nSleeping arrangements – shared 6 bedded room\nPlease follow this link to find out more about the hostel’s facilities: Ullapool  \nOn each day of the trip\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Bynack More
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this path requires a long walk in\, so be prepared to hike around 10 miles on the day (with spades and mattocks!). \nA steady climb leads to the wide plateau below the rocky cone of Bynack More. At around 775 m\, a cairn marks a junction and the path that branches off southwards heads towards the summit. DESCRIPTION:Another day of path maintenance on this popular Corbett!\nMeall a’Bhuachaille rises north of Glenmore and offers a lovely hike\, passing ancient Caledonian pines\, green lochan and Ryvoan bothy. The path then starts climbing up and includes some steep stone-pitching sections.
