Tools and work gloves will be provided (you can bring your own work gloves if you prefer). \nWhat to bring\nAll volunteers should bring appropriate footwear (waterproof boots with firm ankle support) and appropriate clothing (long sleeves and long trousers\, waterproofs\, cap / sun hat) to cover them for changing weather conditions. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Chalamain Gap
DESCRIPTION:Starting from Sugarbowl car park\, this route links the road towards Cairngorm Mountain ski area and the Lairig Ghru path. Well-built path takes you to a narrow pass filled with boulders\, the Chalamain gap. \nLocation: Sugarbowl Car park \nTime: 9:30 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: The nearest toilets available are at Loch Morlich Beach car park and in Glenmore village. \nOn the day\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - 2 Day Event at Loch Muick (Lochnagar)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for two days of path maintenance on Lochnagar footpaths in the stunning area of Glen Muick.\nPlease note this is an overnight trip\, accommodation and evening meal on Monday night will be provided. \nLocation: Spittal of Glen Muick car park and visitor centre\, Ballater \nAccommodation: Allt-Na-Giubhsaich Bothy on Monday night\, provided by the Balmoral Estate \nFacilities: Toilets are available at the bothy\, or at the visitor centre.\nThe bothy is heated by a wood burner\, there is kitchen with cooking facilities\, dining room and two bedrooms with 3 bunkbeds in each. \nOn each day of the trip\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Beinn a'Ghlo return/Airgod Bheinn
DESCRIPTION:Beinn a’Ghlo is the collective name for the range of three Munros close to Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire.\nThe ‘return’ path offers either a subtle way on to the Beinn a’Ghlo ridge or an alternative route back. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Morrone\, Braemar !cancelled!
DESCRIPTION:This event had to be cancelled due to forecasted storm. \nA superb hike\, with magnificent views over Braemar and Cairngorm peaks.\nThe route climbs up to 859 m\, where a radio mast sits on the summit. However\, it does not disturb the fantastic 360° view. \nLocation: Braemar \nTime: 9:30 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: The nearest toilets available are in Braemar at Balnellan Road car park. \nOn the day\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. Bring your bike and join us on the day to help with maintenance of the Lairig an Laoigh path. \nLocation: Glenmore Lodge\, Aviemore \nTime: 9 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: There are accessible toilets at Glenmore Lodge. \nOn the day\nFirst\, we will cycle to the site of the old Bynack Stable shelter (around 4 km)\, lock our bikes and then start walking from there.\nOn the footpath\, we are going to clear drainage features\, help to repair erosion damage and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to stay on the original path line. \nRequirements\nVolunteers must have experience in off-road cycling and walking in the hills\, have a good physical fitness and be capable of using tools.\nNo experience of path work is required. SUMMARY:4 Day Event - Skye Path Project\, Glenbrittle
DESCRIPTION:This is a collaborative volunteering event between Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland\, Mountaineering Scotland and British Mountaineering Council to tackle the eroded state of the footpaths leading up to the Cuillin Hills.\nEach day we will spend between 6-8 hours outside. The first two days will focus on path maintenance\, clearing drainages and doing small repairs where appropriate. The third day\, we will help to plant native tree species in the Fairy Pools car park area to support the site’s regeneration and improve the local habitats. \nPlease\, only sign up if you can commit to the full event. We will ask for a non-returnable £10 donation to It’s Up to Us campaign (upon confirmation of attendance). SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Morrone\, Braemar
DESCRIPTION:A superb hike\, with magnificent views over Braemar and Cairngorm peaks. The route climbs up to 859 m\, where a radio mast sits on the summit. The walk to the top is less than 3.5 km from the nearest car park\, with 480 m of ascent. \nLocation: Braemar \nTime: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm \nFacilities: The nearest toilets available are in Braemar at Balnellan Road car park. \nOn the day\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. SUMMARY:Path Maintenance - Meall a'Bhuachaille\, Aviemore
DESCRIPTION:Meall a’Bhuachaille rises north of Glenmore and offers a lovely hike\, passing ancient Caledonian pines\, green lochan and Ryvoan bothy. The path then starts climbing up and includes some steep stone-pitching sections. It gradually eases off before reaching the summit and revealing panoramic views of the Cairngorms. \nLocation: Glenmore Lodge\, Aviemore \nTime: 9:00 am – 4 pm \nFacilities: There are accessible toilets at Glenmore Lodge. \nOn the day\nVolunteers will help to repair erosion to the footpath\, prevent further damage due to rainfall\, and fix sections where it is needed to encourage users to use the original path line. The maintenance will be centered around what is known as a “drainage run”\, walking the route and clearing drainage features as we go. Such a work is vitally important to ensure the built paths are kept in a good condition\, protecting the surrounding landscape and maintaining the accessibility of the hills. \nRequirements\nNo experience of path work is required. Tools and work gloves will be provided.\nVolunteers must be used to spending time outdoors\, have experience walking in the hills\, have a good physical fitness and be capable of using tools. 14 to 18-year-olds are welcome to join in as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult. \nWhat to bring\nAppropriate footwear (preferably waterproof boots with firm ankle support)\, suitable clothing for a full day in the hills (including waterproofs\, cap or hat and spare warm layer to be prepared for changing weather conditions)\, insect repellent and sunscreen\, and plenty of water and food for the day. \nIf you have any queries please contact Eva\, our Outdoor Access Volunteer Coordinator at eva.kupska@outdooraccesstrustforscotland.org.uk
